Arrive in Kandy from Colombo (3-hour scenic drive). After settling into your hotel, visit the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), housing Buddha’s tooth and attracting Buddhist pilgrims worldwide. The temple complex features beautiful architecture, museums, and daily puja ceremonies (offering rituals at 5:30am, 9:30am, and 6:30pm). Walk around serene Kandy Lake created by Sri Lanka’s last king. Evening Kandyan cultural dance performance featuring traditional drumming, acrobatics, and fire walking.
Explore the magnificent Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, 147 acres featuring over 4,000 plant species including giant bamboo, orchid collection, spice garden, and the famous Avenue of Royal Palms. Walk through beautifully landscaped grounds beside the Mahaweli River. Visit a nearby spice garden learning about cinnamon, cardamom, pepper, vanilla, and medicinal plants.
