Itinerary Guide
This comprehensive itinerary is designed to guide you through an exciting journey filled with remarkable destinations and captivating experiences in Lake Garda.
Arrive at Verona or Bergamo airport and transfer to Lake Garda (45-90 minutes). Explore the enchanting peninsula town of Sirmione with its impressive Scaliger Castle, narrow medieval streets, and the Grotte di Catullo—ruins of a massive Roman villa. Walk to the end of the peninsula for stunning lake views. Visit the thermal springs and relax at lakefront cafés. Enjoy dinner featuring local lake fish and regional wines.
Take a ferry to Malcesine on the lake’s eastern shore, dominated by a magnificent medieval Scaliger Castle perched on a rocky outcrop. Ride the rotating cable car up Monte Baldo, known as the “Garden of Europe,” for spectacular 360-degree views over the lake and Alps. In summer, enjoy hiking or mountain biking; in winter, try skiing. Explore Malcesine’s charming historic center before returning by ferry enjoying sunset views.
Head to Torbole or Riva del Garda at the lake’s northern end, famous for excellent wind conditions. Try windsurfing, kitesurfing, or sailing lessons, or simply relax at lakeside beaches. For land adventures, explore mountain bike trails or try rock climbing and via ferrata routes in the dramatic cliffs. Visit the MAG Museo Alto Garda to learn about the lake’s history and culture. Evening stroll along Riva’s elegant waterfront promenade.
Take a day trip to nearby Verona (45 minutes), the city of Romeo and Juliet. Explore the magnificent Roman Arena, wander through medieval streets to Juliet’s House, and visit the beautiful Piazza delle Erbe. Discover stunning churches, cross the ancient Ponte Pietra bridge, and shop in elegant boutiques. Alternatively, stay at the lake and visit Vittoriale degli Italiani, the eccentric hilltop estate of poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, or enjoy a thermal spa day in Sirmione.
Spend your final morning exploring the southeastern shore’s wine region. Visit Bardolino or Lazise for wine tasting of local Bardolino and Custoza wines, accompanied by local olive oil and cheeses. Browse lakeside markets for regional products. Enjoy a farewell lunch overlooking the water before your transfer to the airport, taking in final views of the stunning lake and mountains.
