Arrive at Split Airport and transfer to your accommodation (30 minutes). Explore the extraordinary Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by Roman Emperor Diocletian in the 4th century AD. Wander through the ancient underground cellars, see the Peristyle central square with its Egyptian sphinx, and visit the Cathedral of St. Domnius built within the emperor’s mausoleum. Discover how the palace has been converted into a living city with shops, cafés, and apartments within ancient walls. Evening stroll along the Riva waterfront promenade.
Take a ferry or fast boat to stunning Hvar island (1-2 hours), known as the sunniest spot in Croatia. Explore Hvar town with its elegant Venetian architecture, beautiful main square, Renaissance cathedral, and hilltop fortress offering panoramic views over the Pakleni Islands. Visit lavender fields (in season), swim in secluded bays, and enjoy the sophisticated atmosphere. Browse boutiques and galleries before enjoying lunch at a waterfront konoba. Return to Split in the late afternoon.
Take a day trip to spectacular Krka National Park (1 hour), featuring a series of stunning waterfalls, turquoise pools, and lush vegetation. Walk the boardwalk trails to Skradinski Buk, the park’s most famous cascade with 17 steps of travertine barriers. Visit the small island of Visovac with its Franciscan monastery. Explore the park’s natural beauty, wildlife, and historical water mills. Swimming is permitted in designated areas. Return via the charming coastal town of Šibenik with its UNESCO-listed cathedral.
Embark on an island-hopping boat tour visiting the stunning Blue Cave on Biševo island where sunlight creates magical blue illumination through underwater opening. Continue to Vis island, Croatia’s most remote inhabited island with authentic atmosphere and beautiful beaches. Visit Stiniva Cove with its dramatic narrow entrance to a hidden beach. Swim, snorkel, and explore unspoiled islands. Many tours include the Green Cave and Budikovac lagoon. Return to Split in the evening.
Climb Marjan Hill, Split’s green lung, for hiking trails, viewpoints, and peaceful pine forests overlooking the city and islands. Visit the Archaeological Museum showcasing Roman artifacts. Explore the charming medieval town of Trogir (30 minutes), another UNESCO site with Venetian architecture and beautiful waterfront. Alternatively, visit ancient Salona ruins, the former Roman capital of Dalmatia. Shop for souvenirs at the Green Market. Enjoy a farewell dinner featuring peka (traditional dish cooked under a bell) and local wines.
