Arrive at Malta International Airport and transfer to your accommodation in or near Valletta (20 minutes). Enter the fortified city through the impressive City Gate designed by Renzo Piano. Walk along Republic Street, Valletta’s main thoroughfare lined with shops, churches, and palaces. Visit the Upper Barrakka Gardens for spectacular panoramic views over the Grand Harbour and Three Cities. Watch the noon cannon salute. Explore the elegant streets and limestone buildings. Enjoy dinner at a restaurant with harbor views.

Visit St. John’s Co-Cathedral, the Knights’ baroque masterpiece featuring an ornately decorated interior with gilded stone carvings, marble floor tombs, painted vault ceiling, and Caravaggio’s “Beheading of St. John the Baptist.” Tour the Grand Master’s Palace with its opulent State Rooms, Gobelin tapestries, armor collection, and Council Chamber. Explore the Palace Armory showcasing one of the world’s finest collections of arms and armor from the Knights’ period.

Visit Fort St. Elmo, the star-shaped fortress that withstood the Great Siege of 1565, now housing the excellent National War Museum. Walk along Valletta’s massive fortifications and bastions built by the Knights. Take a boat across the Grand Harbour to explore the atmospheric Three Cities (Vittoriosa, Senglea, Cospicua) with their narrow streets, historic buildings, maritime heritage, and Fort St. Angelo.
