After settling into your hotel, explore the elegant town centre with its Belle Époque architecture and luxury boutiques. Stroll along the beautiful Lichtentaler Allee, a 2.3-kilometer park promenade lined with centuries-old trees, rose gardens, and art galleries following the Oos River. Visit Trinkhalle (Pump Room) to sample the therapeutic mineral water. Enjoy dinner at a traditional German restaurant.
Experience the legendary Friedrichsbad, a stunning 19th-century bathhouse offering a Roman-Irish bathing ritual through 17 stations including warm air baths, thermal steam rooms, and the magnificent domed pool adorned with frescoes (allow 3 hours for the complete experience). Alternatively, visit the modern Caracalla Therme with its indoor and outdoor thermal pools set in landscaped surroundings. Spend the afternoon relaxing or exploring the charming Altstadt (Old Town) with its pastel-colored buildings and cafés.
Tour the magnificent Casino Baden-Baden, inspired by French palaces and considered one of the world’s most beautiful casinos, where Dostoyevsky famously gambled away his fortune. Visit the Museum Frieder Burda showcasing exceptional modern and contemporary art in a striking Richard Meier-designed building. Explore the Fabergé Museum with its extraordinary collection of Russian imperial treasures. In the evening, attend a performance at the Festspielhaus, Europe’s second-largest opera and concert hall, or try your luck at the casino gaming tables.
Take a day trip into the enchanting Black Forest (Schwarzwald). Visit the spectacular Triberg Waterfalls, Germany’s highest, cascading 163 meters through seven stages. Explore traditional cuckoo clock workshops and the House of 1000 Clocks. Drive through picturesque villages with timber-framed houses, sample authentic Black Forest cake (Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte) in a traditional café, and browse local crafts. Consider visiting Mummelsee, a glacial lake surrounded by legends and hiking trails.
Take the historic Merkur Mountain funicular railway to the 668-meter summit for panoramic views of the Black Forest, Rhine Valley, and Vosges Mountains in France. Enjoy hiking trails or simply relax at the summit restaurant. Alternatively, hike to the ruins of Hohenbaden Castle (Altes Schloss) for stunning views and medieval history.
