Itinerary Guide
This comprehensive itinerary is designed to guide you through an exciting journey filled with remarkable destinations and captivating experiences in Dubrovnik.
Arrive at Dubrovnik Airport and transfer to your accommodation near the Old Town (approximately 20-30 minutes). After settling in, enter the walled city through the impressive Pile Gate and explore the magnificent Stradun (Placa), the polished limestone main street running the length of the Old Town. Visit Onofrio’s Fountain, wander through narrow side streets discovering hidden churches and squares, and climb the Baroque stairway to St. Ignatius Church. Watch sunset from a seaside café or restaurant. Enjoy dinner at a traditional konoba sampling fresh fish, black risotto, and Croatian wines.
Start early to walk the complete circuit of Dubrovnik’s magnificent medieval walls (approximately 2 km, allow 2-3 hours), entering at Pile Gate. The elevated walkway offers spectacular views over orange-tiled rooftops, the shimmering Adriatic, Lovrijenac Fortress, and surrounding islands. Explore Fort Lovrijenac (St. Lawrence Fortress) perched on a cliff 37 meters above the sea, used as the Red Keep in Game of Thrones. Visit the Rector’s Palace with its Gothic-Renaissance architecture and museum. Take the cable car to Mount Srđ for breathtaking panoramic 360-degree views, especially spectacular at sunset. Explore the Homeland War Museum at the summit.
Take a short ferry to Lokrum Island, a lush nature reserve just 600 meters from Dubrovnik featuring botanical gardens, peacocks roaming freely, a small saltwater lake, rocky beaches, ruins of a Benedictine monastery, and the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones. Alternatively, join a boat tour to the beautiful Elafiti Islands (Koločep, Lopud, and Šipan) with their sandy beaches, pine forests, car-free tranquility, and charming villages offering swimming, lunch, and relaxation away from the city crowds.
Join a guided Game of Thrones tour visiting filming locations including the Walk of Shame steps at St. Dominic Street, Lovrijenac Fortress (Red Keep), Pile Gate (King’s Landing entrance), and other iconic spots while learning behind-the-scenes stories. Alternatively, take a day trip to Montenegro’s stunning Kotor Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage fjord-like landscape with medieval Kotor town, dramatic mountains, and the picturesque island church of Our Lady of the Rocks. Or explore the Pelješac Peninsula for wine tasting at renowned vineyards and visiting the charming town of Ston with the world’s second-longest defensive walls.
Experience Dubrovnik from the sea with a sea kayaking tour paddling around the city walls to hidden caves and Betina Cave beach, with swimming and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters. Alternatively, relax at Banje Beach with its stunning city views, visit the secluded Sveti Jakov Beach reached by steps, or explore more museums including the Maritime Museum and Dubrovnik Cathedral Treasury. Shop for local crafts, lavender products, and Croatian wines. Enjoy a farewell sunset cruise along the coast or a final dinner within the atmospheric walls.
