This comprehensive itinerary is designed to guide you through an exciting journey filled with remarkable destinations and captivating experiences in Kyoto.
Arrive at Kansai or Osaka Airport and take the train to Kyoto (approximately 75 minutes). After settling into your hotel, explore the atmospheric Gion geisha district with its preserved wooden machiya houses and traditional teahouses. Walk along Hanami-koji street hoping to spot geisha or maiko heading to appointments. Visit Yasaka Shrine illuminated beautifully at night, and enjoy dinner at a traditional restaurant.
Start early at the stunning Fushimi Inari Shrine, hiking through thousands of vermillion torii gates winding up the mountain (2-3 hours for full trail). Visit the magnificent Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) shimmering in its reflecting pond. Journey to Arashiyama to walk through the enchanting Bamboo Grove, visit Tenryu-ji Temple’s beautiful gardens, and cross the photogenic Togetsukyo Bridge. Optional monkey park visit for city views.
Explore the impressive Kiyomizu-dera Temple perched on a hillside offering spectacular city views from its wooden stage built without nails. Wander through the charming Higashiyama District’s preserved streets with traditional shops, cafes, and temples.
