Arrive at Luxor International Airport and travel to your hotel along the Nile (approximately 15-20 minutes). After settling in, take a gentle introduction to Luxor with an evening visit to the beautifully illuminated Luxor Temple in the heart of the city. This 3,400-year-old temple looks particularly magical at night with dramatic lighting highlighting colossal statues, towering columns, and intricate hieroglyphics. Stroll along the Nile Corniche and enjoy dinner at a riverside restaurant.
Rise early for an optional breathtaking hot air balloon ride at sunrise, floating over the West Bank monuments, Nile River, and agricultural landscapes. Visit the legendary Valley of the Kings, where pharaohs were buried in elaborate underground tombs decorated with stunning wall paintings. Explore tombs of Ramses VI, Tutankhamun, and others. Continue to the magnificent Temple of Hatshepsut carved into limestone cliffs. Stop at the towering Colossi of Memnon, two massive stone statues that once guarded a temple.
Explore the vast Karnak Temple complex, one of ancient Egypt’s most impressive achievements covering 200 acres. Wander through the Great Hypostyle Hall with 134 massive columns reaching 23 meters high, explore sacred lakes, obelisks, and numerous smaller temples dedicated to various gods. The scale and preservation of Karnak is simply breathtaking. Visit Luxor Museum housing beautifully displayed artifacts including royal mummies and treasures. In the evening, consider the spectacular Sound and Light show at Karnak Temple.
Discover lesser-visited but equally fascinating West Bank sites. Visit the Valley of the Queens with beautifully decorated tombs including Queen Nefertari’s stunning burial chamber (additional fee). Explore Deir el-Medina, the remarkably preserved village where ancient tomb builders and artisans lived, offering insight into daily life 3,000 years ago. Visit Medinet Habu, Ramses III’s massive mortuary temple featuring well-preserved reliefs and colorful hieroglyphics depicting battles and religious ceremonies.
Spend your final day experiencing the Nile that sustained this ancient civilization. Enjoy a traditional felucca sailing trip on the gentle river currents, watching rural life along the banks as farmers tend crops and children play. Visit the local souk (market) for authentic Egyptian shopping including spices, perfume oils, papyrus, alabaster carvings, and traditional handicrafts. Enjoy a farewell dinner cruise on the Nile with traditional music and entertainment. Alternatively, consider an optional day trip to Dendera and Abydos temples.
