Itinerary Guide

This comprehensive itinerary is designed to guide you through an exciting journey filled with remarkable destinations and captivating experiences in Munnar.

Arrive from Cochin via scenic 4-hour drive through winding mountain roads passing waterfalls, tea estates, and cardamom plantations (stops at Cheeyappara and Valara waterfalls). Check into your hotel and relax enjoying cool mountain air. Visit a local tea plantation and factory learning the tea-making process from leaf-picking to final product. Watch workers plucking two leaves and a bud, see processing machinery, and sample various teas. Evening stroll through town.

Visit Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr mountain goats. Trek through rolling grasslands to Anamudi Peak’s base (South India’s highest), spotting these sure-footed animals grazing on hillsides. The park transforms into a carpet of purple Neelakurinji flowers (blooms once every 12 years, next 2030). Continue to Mattupetty Dam for boat rides surrounded by mountains, and Echo Point where voices reverberate across the valley. Visit the dairy farm and Rose Garden.

Rise early for sunrise viewing from viewpoints as mist rolls over tea-covered hills creating ethereal landscapes. Journey to Top Station at 1,700 meters on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border offering panoramic views over valleys and distant plains. The winding drive through dense tea plantations provides countless photo opportunities. Visit Kundala Lake for pedal boating, explore spice plantations seeing cardamom, pepper, cinnamon, and vanilla growing, and enjoy organic lunch.

Trek to Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the world’s highest organic tea plantation at 2,400 meters, accessible via jeep and trek offering spectacular sunrise and tea-tasting. Alternatively, visit beautiful Attukal and Lakkam waterfalls cascading through forest requiring short treks. For adventure seekers, try rock climbing, mountain biking through plantations, or longer treks in the Western Ghats. Evening Ayurvedic massage using herbal oils for rejuvenation.

Spend your final morning at leisure – perhaps visiting local markets for tea, spices, and chocolate purchases, taking gentle walks through tea estates, or simply relaxing in your resort enjoying mountain views. Optional visit to nearby Thekkady/Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary (3 hours) for elephant sightings and spice plantations. Return to Cochin via scenic route with stops for photos and refreshments.
