This comprehensive itinerary is designed to guide you through an exciting journey filled with remarkable destinations and captivating experiences in Death Valley.
Arrive at Las Vegas McCarran Airport and journey through the desert landscape to Death Valley National Park (approximately 2-2.5 hours). Stop at the visitor center to learn about the park’s extreme environment and pick up maps. After settling into your accommodation, visit Furnace Creek Ranch area and explore the nearby Golden Canyon trail at sunset when temperatures are cooler and the rocks glow in warm light. Enjoy dinner with views of the Panamint Mountains.
Wake early to witness sunrise at Zabriskie Point, where the badlands transform into a palette of gold, pink, and orange hues. Continue to Badwater Basin, standing at 282 feet below sea level, the lowest point in North America. Walk across the vast salt flats creating otherworldly white patterns. Drive the scenic Artists Drive, a one-way loop through colorful volcanic and sedimentary hills of the Artists Palette. Explore Devil’s Golf Course with its bizarre salt formations.
Visit Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes near Stovepipe Wells, climbing the stunning dunes for panoramic desert views and unique photography opportunities. Drive to Dante’s View, perched 5,475 feet above the valley floor, offering breathtaking panoramic vistas spanning Badwater Basin to Telescope Peak. Explore the abandoned Harmony Borax Works to learn about Death Valley’s mining history. Cool evening hike through Mosaic Canyon’s polished marble walls.
Venture to the mysterious Racetrack Playa to witness the famous sailing stones that leave tracks across the dry lakebed (4×4 vehicle recommended). Alternatively, explore Titus Canyon, a spectacular one-way drive through narrow canyons with colorful rock layers.
